| Pontiac Lake Recreation Area, Dodge #4 State Park, Automotive National Heritage Area – Motor Cities. Can you tell we’re in Michigan? This is the town of Waterford, located in Oakland County, near Detroit. In 1818, Archibald Phillips and Alpheus Williams purchased 161 acres, now the village of Waterford, Michigan. They also built the first saw mill, and the first dam where the Clinton River crosses the Saginaw Trail. Although Alpheus Williams did have a few supplies for sale, the first official store was run by Mr. Merrick and Mr. Bruce in 1837. The second store was established in 1854, and is known as August Jacober’s store, located in Greenfield Village. The Jacobers sold the store in 1927 for $700. The new owner? Henry Ford. So many interesting things to learn here—and a lot of fun to be had as well. Be sure to make reservations at a Waterford Bed and Breakfast for your accommodations. You’ll need the comfort and a good night’s rest for all the modern-day action you’re in for, right in the midst of this charming historic village. The Fridge Toboggan Run, the Waterford Oaks Waterpark, Zero Gravity Skate Park, Sylvan Lanes, U.S. Blades Arena, Paintball Arena, the Waterford Hills Road Racing Course. After all that, a couple rounds of golf at the Pontiac Country Club or the Silver Lake Golf Club will be a breeze! There’s also a bit of shopping to be done at the Dixieland Antique Flea Market or the Art Leaders Gallery. Variety is the word when it comes to the fabulous places you’ll have to choose from, come dinner time. Mexico Lindo, Village Place Restaurant, Jeremy Restaurant & Bar, Andiamo Italia West, Clarkson Café, Golden Phoenix Restaurant,, and The Lark. What a tough decision! Looks like you’ll just have to stay a couple more days so you can try them all! |
