| Lansing, the State Capital of Michigan, is spread over both Ingham and Eaton counties, and is named after Lansing, New York. A log house and a sawmill were all that stood in the forested Lansing area when the state capital was moved here from Detroit in 1847. In the beginning, the traffic of folks coming to conduct business at the state capital contributed a great deal to Lansing’s early economy. Grain milling, cider pressing, plow and wagon manufacturing were some of the other early Lansing industries. One interesting fact is that Lansing is the home town of Magic Johnson.
