Arcadia

Manistee County, Michigan is home to the lovely town of Arcadia, which appropriately means “peaceful”. Arcadia Township was organized in 1870, and the first post office appeared on the scene in 1883—but records as early as 1854 introduce us to the lives of the earliest settlers to the area. The town of Arcadia became a prosperous hub in northwest Michigan after 1895, when the Arcadia & Betsey River Railway connected with the Chicago and West Michigan Railway. Lumbering, farming, and ship transportation all contributed to this busy intersection of the country. Today, marinas, beaches, friendly faces, and antique homes all welcome the traveler to beautiful Arcadia. In less than five minutes, you can be right in the middle of the fishing, golfing, and snow mobile action. Twenty minutes or less will bring skiing, more golfing, swimming, picnicking, hunting, fishing, hiking, biking. Then get dressed up and check out the dining options as well as some sightseeing. Canoeing and gaming are available less than thirty minutes from Arcadia. Some great things to do are located in nearby Beulah and Frankfort. There certainly is something for everyone nearby! For some planned activities, try the Lake Michigan Circle Tour, or visit the awesome destinations of Manistee National Forest, Interlochen Center for the Arts, or Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore.
