| Step into another way of life here in Mio, Michigan. Oscoda County is home to an Amish Settlement, which provides the town with the most delicious bakeries and shops. The Mennonite Relief Fair and Expo is also a great experience. The town was originally known as “Mioe”, which was the name of Henry Deyarmond’s wife. Deyarmond, along with Colige Comins, Reirlo Fosdick, and John Randall founded the town in 1881. Fishing, canoeing and kayaking, and boating can all be found on the AuSable River, if adventure is what you’re after. The Huron National Forest also provides action in the form of hiking and hunting—try the Michigan Shore to Shore Riding and Hiking Trail. Sight seeing can come in the form of Steiner’s Museum or Our Lady of the Woods Shire. Outdoor observations would include wildlife viewing, or a visit to the Kirtland Warbler Habitat Area, if birds are of interest. Mio also offers the wintertime activities of snowmobiling on our well-groomed trails, or cross-country skiing. Plan to load that off-road vehicle onto your trailer and bring it along to Mio with you. The National Forest ORV trails are challenging you! |
