| Otsego County, Michigan, is the home of the neighboring towns of Vanderbilt and Gaylord, with Vanderbilt located just a bit more to the north. The wealthy Vanderbilt family of New York owned the land where the town now exists in Corwith Township, hence the name Vanderbilt, which in 1901 was incorporated as a village. Across the farmland and resorts we go, soon coming to the Otsego County Seat of Gaylord, located right along I75. A. S. Gaylord was an attorney with the railroad which came through the area in 1874. At that time the existing town of Barnes, Michigan, became re-christened Gaylord. Fall and winter bring color drives, skiing, and snowmobiling. Summer is here before we know it, and it’s time to enjoy golfing, tennis, hiking, boating, fishing, mushrooming, and the abundant arts and craft shows as well as the local festivals. During any time of the year, a visitor to Vanderbilt or Gaylord is bound to remember the delicious selections from our famous restaurants—not to mention the shopping and the many wonderful historic sites.
