Engadine Michigan is just over an hour from Mackinaw City on the Lower Peninsula, yet it seems like a distant land. The Lake Michigan coastline near Engadine is dotted with parks and mile after mile of white, sandy beaches. To the north, almost 100,000-acres of wilderness, lakes, islands and swamps in the Seney National Wildlife Refuges team with moose, loons, trumpeter swans and more.

About 30 minutes from bed and breakfasts Engadine Michigan is the Tahquamenon Falls State Park, with 40,000 acres of forest and some of the most impressive waterfalls east of the Mississippi. Hike here in summer, cross country ski or snowshoe here in the winter. Walk the paved trail to the falls, or approach them a more interesting way: take the Toonerville Trolley (a narrow gauge railroad) 5.5 miles through dense forest to the Tahquamenon River, board a riverboat, and cruise 21 miles to the Upper Tahquamenon Falls (fear not, the riverboat does not descend the falls).
