Though just an hour northeast of Detroit in Southeast Michigan, Hartland feels like a quaint village far out in the country. It is close to five State Recreation Areas: Proud Lake and Highland to the east, Brighton State and Island Lake to the south, and Pinckney a bit farther southwest. Time spent at Hartland Michigan bed and breakfasts often includes some type of outdoor recreation.
These recreation areas encompass miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, skiing and ORV use. Numerous lakes and ponds entice anglers with the promise of a fat catch. In the fall, the trees around bed and breakfasts Hartland Michigan turn golden orange, yellow and red, and when they drop their leaves, leave-covered trails make delightful crunching sounds underfoot.
In addition to recreation land, there is much farmland near Hartland. Visit the Farmers Market on Saturdays at the Old Hartland High School to sample the produce growing in the vicinity; then enjoy a scenic drive or bike ride up to Spicer's Orchards and Cider Mill. Spicer's offers u-pick fruits (strawberries, cherries, blueberries, raspberries, plums and apples, to name a few), as well as a tasting room where visitors may sample hard ciders and wines. Be sure to bring a favorite bottle back to the Hartland Michigan bed and breakfast.
Visit the small, historic town of Parshallville while staying at a bed and breakfast Hartland Michigan. It is just north of Hartland, and is a delightful Michigan Historic Site. Tom Walker's Grist Mill (also known as the Parshallville Cider Mill) was built in 1869 and is one of the few remaining water powered mills in Michigan. While it once pressed flour for humans and grains for animals, today it creates some of the tastiest cider around. Enjoy an interesting historic tour, and return home with some cider and a freshly baked pie.
