La Belle de la Riviere
Welcome to La Belle de la Riviere ('The Beauty of the River') Bed & Breakfast, built in 1871. Ideal for weddings, anniversaries, or just a simple getaway from the worries of everyday life.
The mansion is situated in the Heart of West Michigan, near 234 lakes and 356 miles of rivers. Enjoy a taste of Michigan life on the Muskegon River, in the middle of one of the best scenic, hunting, fishing and boating areas in America.
The object here is to slow down. Go back somewhere in time...enjoy the lost art of conversation with new found friends, or your partner. Read a good book from our library. Take a leisurely stroll along the beautiful Muskegon River and historic downtown. Play at nearby golf courses. And after a restful night's sleep and a delicious breakfast you'll be ready to explore the blessings of this river-valley wonderland.
Newaygo, Michigan is located in southern Newaygo County, on the Muskegon River. Newaygo's earliest recorded history goes back to the mid 1700's when French explorers and trappers traveled up the Muskegon River. Newaygo County was named after the Chippewa Indian Chief (Naw-wa-goo). Settlement of the area began in 1836. Newaygo grew during the lumber boom because of its prime location on the Muskegon River, a major route for timber.
Today Newaygo remains as a charming, quaint town with big character. The Muskegon River continues to be the main attraction for summer vacationers and fishermen. The river teems with steelhead in the spring and salmon in the fall. Fly casters head for the nearby streams. This is also a popular area for hunters, campers and RV's.
In the winter, ice fish on one of the nearby lakes, or on Croton Pond. Cross county skiers and snow mobilers know this is the place to come to enjoy our Winter Wonderland. Half of Newaygo County resides in the Manistee National Forest.
