Last Resort B&B Inn

Your Innkeeper and Artist, Mary, is in her twenty-seventh season this year ... no small feat! She and her husband, Alberto's artwork can be seen throughout the entire Inn, including The Inn Gallery, the common areas, as well as in the more contemporary penthouse suites. Their unique lodging accommodations include a wide variety of amenities including air conditioning, en-suite baths, whirlpool tubs, kitchenettes and all the comfort that you deserve. Many of their rooms have views of water, making the Inn truly special!

Located on the picturesque north beach peninsula, this lovely inn has views of Lake Michigan or the harbor, from every room but two!  Innkeeper Mary and Alberto's artwork are throughout entire building, creating an informal, yet inviting atmosphere. Great for hosting groups, family reunions, honeymoons or a quick get-away for two!

Offering small affordable cozy rooms for two; spacious Penthouse Jacuzzi suites for couples or families, a romantic cottage and an apartment as spacious as a small condo...this Inn offers the relaxed non-formal atmosphere you are looking for when you need to unwind and get away! Whether it's for a family reunion (we take children in the bigger units located at one end of the building) or for a romantic get-away: or for that much needed independent escape...THIS is the right place! A 66' wrap-around deck graces the front facing the gardens where guests enjoy their complimentary breakfast...and there is a gas grill on the back deck for guest use. The Inn Gallery has plenty of tables for breakfast use, or meetings for corporate retreats.

This historic inn has spacious grounds, decks and plenty of common area inside for guests to relax and kick back. Artists Mary Hammer and Alberto Quiroga welcome you to a visual feast of diverse, colorful work throughout the inn.

The Last Resort Inn is Mary's largest work of art. Guests will delight in the international flavor she has picked up and incorporated in the decor.  In the many small historic rooms, she has on display wall hangings from places like India, Guatemala, and China!  This unique artist couple welcomes travelers of all ages, as well as families, to stay here from North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia and other parts of the World.  You can read more about what's happening at the Inn in our News section of our website.

A little bit of History: The Last Resort B&B Inn began when the building was constructed in 1883 by Civil War Captain Barney Dyckman as South Haven's very first resort Inn. It ran as a resort until 1959, when it was closed up and virtually abandoned for twenty years. The Inn was purchased and renovated from 1979 until its reopening in 1983, as South Haven's very first bed and breakfast Inn!  It is now open May 1st through October.   Read more in the Press Kit of our web site.

The Inn's location in South Haven, on the shores of Lake Michigan, puts guests in close proximity to wide variety of interesting attractions. Enjoy such exciting outdoor activities as fishing, boating, and swimming in the Lake. Spend an afternoon with a round of golf or hike along the Kal-Haven Trail. Bicycles for rent make it easy to explore the town. No matter what activities you choose to fill your days with be sure to leave plenty of time to explore the Inn.

We are pleased to welcome families with children and the South Haven area has many activities for all ages; North and South Beach, Stanley Johnston Park, Kids Corner Park, a bike ride on the Kal-Haven trail or Van Buren Trail with your own bike or one rented from Rock-n-Road Cycle, a competitive game of paint ball at the Hole in the Wall paintball field or a game of mini-golf or bowling at Lakeside Lanes to name a few.

Navigate the waters of the Black River in a kayak provided by Outpost Sports or try out Lake Michigan in a jet-ski from Martin's Jet Ski & Boat Rentals. Cool down with a yummy treat at South Haven's very own Sherman's Dairy Ice Cream and then take a horse drawn carriage ride with the Black River Carriage Company.

Plenty of quant down town shopping is available along with a variety of unique items for sale at the Inn. Enjoy a romantic fine dining evening at Tello Italian Bistro or Hawkshead, casual dining at the Thirsty Perch, Harborside Bistro or Clementine's; outdoor dining on the Idler Riverboat or Back to the 50's Drive-in along with many other South Haven area restaurants.

Need to relax?  Have a massage from one of our favorites, either in your room or at her location. Enjoy a pedicure, manicure, facial and other spa treats at a South Haven Day Spa.

Give your senses a treat at a free outdoor concert at the Riverfront Park on Thursday evenings or jam at Foundry Hall which is host to a variety of musical tastes.

Several wineries are less than 30 minutes from The Last Resort. Visit the Michigan Wine Trail website for specific information on wineries such as St. Julian, Karma Vista, Fenn Valley and Warner Vineyards.

Enjoy a round of golf at one of the areas choice courses:  Hawkshead, Beeches Golf Club and South Haven Golf Club.

If you care to enjoy a sail on beautiful Lake Michigan try the historic tall ship Friends Good Will or a leisurely cruise on a catamaran sailboat with the Cat's Meow.  Perhaps a landing a King Salmon, Lake Trout, Brown Trout or Coho is what you desire; It Il Do Charters or South Haven Fishing Charters will be happy to show you the lay of fish filled waters of Lake Michigan.

While there is so much to do in the South Haven area, our Inn is your home away from home.  Make yourself comfortable on the decks enjoying the fresh Michigan air and the sounds of Lake Michigan and the Black River Harbor; relax in a lounge chaise among the flowers; catch up with your e-mail or other internet activities with our Wi-Fi, shop at our unique gallery or perhaps a spontaneous salsa dance with Alberto and Mary.  We look forward to being your hosts!!!
