One of the most fun ways to travel to Ludington is by car ferry from Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Ludington sits on Lake Michigan in Northwest Michigan. The areas has three historic Michigan Lighthouses, the largest charter fishing fleet on Lake Michigan, and miles of lovely beaches. Once guests have stayed in bed and breakfasts Ludington Michigan, they feel compelled to return again and again.
In order to visit Big Sable Point Lighthouse, one must walk 1.5 miles up the beach at Ludington State Park. Pack a picnic and do it, because it is well worth it. It is easier to get to the Ludington North Breakwater Light - a walk of .5 miles on the breakwater is all that is required. To access the lovely red brick Little Sable Lighthouse, one must scramble over dunes and walk a stretch of beach from Golden Township Park. All three Michigan lighthouses are open for visitation. Ask Ludington Michigan bed and breakfast innkeepers which Michigan Lighthouse is most worth the walk.
Ludington State Park takes up the land between Lake Michigan and Hamlin Lake, making it feel like an island. On 6 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline there are sandy beaches, dense woods and impressive sand dunes. Almost 20 miles trails make hiking or cross country skiing interesting. It is also a good place to explore by canoe or kayak.
The Pere Marquette National Scenic River flows 66 miles through the Huron-Manistee National Forest. It is considered one of the finest trout streams in the midwest, so anglers should not leave home without fishing gear. Float down the river in a canoe, paddle up it in a kayak - it is truly lovely.
Before checking out of a Ludington Michigan bed and breakfast, take time to tour a stretch of the Michigan Shore Wine Trail. There are several excellent boutique Michigan wineries near Ludington, all of which offer wine tasting. Bring home a bottle of Michigan wine and remember good times in Ludington while enjoying it.
