One of the most fun ways to travel to Ludington is by car ferry from Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Ludington sits on Lake Michigan in Northwest Michigan. Ludington State Park takes up the land between Lake Michigan and Hamlin Lake, making it feel like an island. On 6 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline there are sandy beaches, dense woods and impressive sand dunes. Almost 20 miles trails make hiking or cross country skiing interesting. It is also a good place to explore by canoe or kayak.

The Pere Marquette National Scenic River flows 66 miles through the Huron-Manistee National Forest. It is considered one of the finest trout streams in the midwest, so anglers should not leave home without fishing gear. Float down the river in a canoe, paddle up it in a kayak - it is truly lovely.
