Hand-Made in Michigan
Home > Find a B&B > Hand-Made in Michigan

Bed and breakfasts Michigan offer a completely different type of hospitality than corporate hotels. B&B innkeepers offer guests an authentic slice of Michigan. Innkeepers are usually deeply involved in their communities, and they understand the importance of supporting local businesses.

Many bed and breakfasts Michigan showcase locally made or Michigan products in the inns. For example, inns might be furnished with hand-crafted Amish furniture, quilts, or pillows. Or perhaps they make coffee with beans from a Michigan coffee roaster and serve it in hand-thrown mugs from a local pottery studio. Michigan wine, beer and cider may accompany Michigan artisanal cheese for an afternoon snack, and breakfast may feature hand-picked blueberries or cherries from a nearby farm, or Michigan maple syrup.

Many Michigan bed and breakfasts are located in areas with thriving art communities. Ask the innkeepers about their favorite art studios, galleries and museums. Inquire about local theater venues and the best spots for listening to live music. Ask for recommendations for great local restaurants. Bed and breakfast Michigan innkeepers are a terrific source of information, and it gives them pleasure to share it with their guests.

Michigan bed and breakfasts in rural areas may have the most vibrant communities of all. They are very likely near Michigan wine or beer trails. Perhaps the neighbor runs a u-pick farm or makes lovely Amish furniture. Maybe the inn is in an historic lighthouse, or close to the local farmers market.

Often the best part of traveling to discover the unexpected. Maybe it’s the people who sat near you at breakfast who become lifelong friends. Or it’s the afternoon spent in an Amish woodworker’s shop or the conversation you had with the vintner as you tasted wine. This is why we leave our homes and our routines. This is why we go to Michigan bed and breakfasts.
