Scottville is in Northwest Michigan, just a few miles east of Ludington, which sits on the Lake Michigan coast. The Pere Marquette River snakes through a verdant valley from the Manistee National Forest to the coast near Ludington, passing just south of Scottville. Spring through fall, vacationers traveling to Scottville Michigan bed and breakfasts may like the scenic ferry ride from Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Ludington.

Bicyclists may be as delighted with the area as anglers, thanks to the numerous trails that traverse Mason County and Northeast Michigan. The Lake Michigan Recreation Area affords lovely views from the designated bike path. The Hart-Montague Bicycle Trail weaves 22 miles through small towns, and is a great way to get a travel the region. Even scenic M-116 along the coast of Lake Michigan has a large shoulder for cyclists.

There are several Michigan Lighthouses in the Ludington vicinity. Ludington North Pierhead Light, located in Ludington on the end of the North Breakwater in Stearns Park, is open for tours during weekends June through Labor Day. Little Sable Point Lighthouse, in Charles Mears State Park in Pentwater, is one of the oldest brick lighthouses on the Great Lakes. Big Sable Point Lighthouse (also known as Grand Point Au Sable) is just north of Ludington, in Ludington State Park; it is open for visitation May through October, and houses a gift shop in the original 1867 lighthouse keeper's quarters.
