Visitors to Michigan's Upper Peninsula will need plenty of time to fully explore the area's diverse and beautiful terrain. From waterfalls to lakeshore, from mountain vistas to thick-forested trails, the Upper Peninsula is a nature lover's dream! The 384-mile-long peninsula stretches from Drummond Island in the east to Ironwood in the west and is 233 miles wide from Menominee in the south to Copper Harbor at the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The Upper Peninsula is home to Tahquamenon Falls located in Tahquamenon Falls State Park. The Tahquamenon Falls are one of the largest falls east of the Mississippi River and the 40,000-acre park surrounding them offers miles of trails perfect for hiking in the summer, spring and fall, and for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Another spectacular location is the Isle Royale National Park. This remote park is accessible only by boat and floatplane and provides an abundance of activities. Isle Royale offers 165 miles of scenic hiking trails, excellent fishing, historic lighthouses and shipwrecks, ancient copper mining sites, and plenty of spots to observe wildlife. The hundreds of lakes and streams throughout the UP mean there is never a shortage of fishing and boating opportunities. The many lighthouses along the 1,700-miles of shoreline are a great way to tour the entire area. There is the Seul Choix Point Lighthouse overlooking Lake Michigan, the Sand Point Lighthouse with its Maritime Museum, the Peninsula Point Lighthouse in the Hiawatha National Forest, Round Island Lighthouse on Mackinac Island and many more. These are just a handful of the many exciting places to explore in Michigan's Upper Peninsula while enjoying a Michigan bed and breakfast as your home away from home.
